Alamode uses a semi-discrete finite element approach to discretize the parabolic partial differential equations. The equations are discretized in space using a finite element approach, resulting in a system of nonlinear ordinary differential equations. The system is integrated using implicit techniques appropriate for stiff ODEs. The nonlinear systems of equations arising from the integration of the ODEs are solved using Newton techniques.
