Microsoft Global IME

  1. Allows you to use Hangul/Japanese/Chinese in certain Windows applications under English Microsoft Windows operating system (Windows 95/98 and NT). Works only in certain applications (i.e., Microsoft Internet Explorer, Outlook and Outlook Express).

  2. It allows one to both read and write Hangul or that language(Japanese/Chinese).

  3. Download from this site (not needed if done with '3' above)
For Korean, download "Microsoft Global IME for Korean - with Language Pack". About 2.5MB
For Japanese, download the same thing but the one that says Japanese. About 6.2MB.

  4. Instructions

Run komondo.exe (or the appropriate executable that you've downloaded)
Set FONT & LANGUAGE to KOREAN/Japanese/Chinese
(in case of Korean, you may also set the font to Gulim or Batang)

IE 4.0: VIEW – INTERNET OPTIONS
    Outlook: VIEW

What you see after the installation? You should see an icon called "EN" in your task bar (right bottom corner).

What to expect? You can view Hangul from Microsoft IE(Internet Explorer) and Outlook Express (or Outlook) if options are set to view Korean with appropriate fonts, or the respective language. This is explained in the above.

How to enter Hangul & English? When cursor is at a place where you can enter HANGUL, click on "EN" and you will get the option to choose between ENGLISH and HANGUL When you click on KOREAN, you will now see the IME that allows you to input Hangul/Hanja. You may click on the IME to convert between English/Hangul/Hanja or use hot keys. Use right ALT key for Hangul/English and right CTRL key for Hangul/Hanja conversion. It would be similiar for other languages.

Let me know if you need others and have problems.

Thank you. Apr/1999.
